One of the best times to visit Moab is during the fall season. Fewer crowds and almost perfect temperatures make for the perfect combination to do all your favorite Moab activities. To help plan your getaway, here are our top things to do in Moab in the fall.
Hike the National Parks
It goes without saying that a trip to Moab, no matter what time of year, isn’t complete without a visit to one or both of our national parks. Both Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park are open year-round and provide access to some of the most beautiful scenery in all of Utah. With fewer crowds and cooler temperatures, hiking the national parks in the fall is nothing short of spectacular.
Raft the Colorado River
Raft the rivers that helped to carve the meandering landscapes that have shaped Moab. Guided trips of the Colorado River usually run until late October when water levels get too low. Fall is a great time of year for a gentle float down the legendary river, giving you more time to enjoy the wildlife, petroglyphs, and sculpted walls that follow the river.
Visit Dead Horse State Park
While Dead Horse State Park is open year-round and can be enjoyed in any season, fall is one of the best times to visit. Take advantage of fewer crowds, although this park sees fewer visitors compared to the national parks, during the fall you can feel like you have the park all to yourself. Plus, with cooler temperatures, hiking trails can be enjoyed at any time of day.
Mountain biking
If you are more of a biker, then Moab is your place! Take advantage of Moab’s endless trail systems and cover more ground by biking your way through Moab. And because of Moab’s pleasant temps in the fall, the highly-exposed routes are better enjoyed during the day. For beginners, try the Bar-M Loop, and for the advanced mountain biker, check out Slickrock Trail.
Discover Bartlett Wash
Hike or bike the wonderland of slickrock at Bartlett Wash that is often not home to a lot of people. Discover the beautiful scenery of smooth, porous rock with expansive space where visitors are free to roam around. There is no specific trail, rather you pick your own route, whether you are hiking or biking.
